Why should you wear sunglasses and at what UV protection?

It’s another beautiful sunny day in Canterbury, but did you know that you need to protect your eyes as well as your skin in the sun!

To protect your eyes against the sun’s harmful UV rays, you should always wear proper sunglasses with 100% UV protection. Always look out for the CE or British Standard Marks when buying sunglasses.

Excessive UV exposure to your eyes can cause damage that can lead to problems such as macular degeneration or cataracts. There are however, some easy steps to protecting your eyes against sun damage:

  1. Wear good sunglasses and always ensure the they comply with the CE and British Standards. It’s a good idea to wear sunglasses even if you are using contact lenses with a UV filter as they will still offer more protection.
  2. For added protection, wear a wide-brimmed sun hat as this will help to reduce any glare from around the sunglasses
  3. Never look directly at the sun, even if it a just for a few seconds as this can cause irreversible damage

For this summer, we are delighted to have two completely new sunglass ranges in stock: Jensen for men and Cocoa Mint for ladies. Both ranges offer great quality frames in the latest styles and are available with or without prescription lenses. These ranges, and all the other sunglasses we stock, including Ray-Ban and Serengeti all meet the required standards and any prescription lenses we fit also offer the highest levels of UV protection available.
